A great start to a superb trilogy!

I like the author's twist that the reader knows while the characters do not

A deadly game is being played out! and peoples lives are at stake!

I advise you to read all three in the correct order - Dead Wrong, Dead Certain, Dead Even

Enjoy!

three prisoners are transported to court in the same bus, there's no connection. After being put in the same room by chance, they make a plan. The game begins. Mara Douglas is a custody worker who's completely oblivious that there is a killer looking for her until the second person dies and hits a little to close for comfort. This book kept me on edge from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down and have already read it twice. It's pure genious the way the author links all three books (Dead Certain and Dead Even)This book has it all, it has romance, it has action, it has a great plot that makes you think what if....? and it has an open ending which make it all the nmore better because the characters have a second chance of turning up again. Absolutley brilliant book.

There is a serial killer on the loose. The only connection found is that all three women were listed in the phone book as M. Douglas. They had been murdered in the same order as they were listed. The next person listed that way is Mara Douglas. Needless to say, Mara is very, very worried.

Dr. Anne McCall, Mara's sister, is a criminal profiler for the FBI. She contacts FBI agent Aidan Shields, who owes her a favor, and asks him to be Mara's bodyguard until the killer is caught.

Aidan has not been on active duty for over a year, when his last mission ended with his brother being killed and himself all shot up. Aidan has been living as a hermit, filled with pain and guilt, until Annie arrives at his door and asks for his help. For Annie, Aidan moves into Mara's house and becomes her shadow. However, he never expected Mara to bring him out of the shadows and back into the light.

***** This is the first of three books. Even so, it did not leave me hanging in a lurch. The book stands alone as a thrilling suspense novel. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming books (titled "DEAD WRONG" & "DEAD CERTAIN") will have Mara or Aidan in them as secondary characters. As for this one, it is so over flowing with action and suspense that I found it extremely hard to put down the book for more than a few minutes! Once again, author Mariah Stewart aims to please, and succeeds! *****
