1 out of 5 stars Book should have been called "ME ME ME"!   July 11, 2010
Mr. Peter J. Regelous (United Kingdom)
I'm so disappointed with this book and the presumably honest picture it paints of John Barrowman as it's written by him and his sister.

My wife and I have always considered John to be a good hard working professional entertainer. Although a bit light weight in the vocal department, nevertheless, we felt he made up for this with his all round performances.

He comes out of this autobiography looking shallow, egotistical, insensitive, smutty and arrogant. He's a big name dropper too and seems also to worship everything with an expensive price tag - Valentino for starters.

And what gives John the right to chastise members of the public for taking the odd photo of him during a performance? Okay, so maybe it's not the done thing and yes, perhaps there is a copyright issue, but these people have paid good money to see him and his show and shouldn't be taken to task by him and certainly not in front of other members of the audience.

If as he says, there was no announcement regarding photography at the start of the shows, then he should direct his anger to the theatre management and not at the audience who keep him and the theatrical royalty in the life style to which they have become accustomed.

My heart really bleeds for John when he says he works so hard and he should take a reality check of his own pampered existence against that of say a care worker who earns in a year, what he earns in a night.

Stephanie Powers says in his book, "It's not about you John, it's about the show." Unfortunately, John Barrowman hasn't taken this on board at all.

Above all, I thought John Barrowman was a true professional on stage and how disappointed I am that he is not. He is not because he swears at audience members because they dare to act in a way that he deems not appropriate. (I would have asked for my money back) Also, all the in jokes and the emitting of wind episodes during performances. Shouldn't he have grown up by now?

I, too, am a professional entertainer and member of British Actors Equity Association, however, at the other end of the financial scale! My audiences take photos and video's of my performances but I have no objection to this. I'm glad they like me enough to want to do so and I wouldn't want to do anything else. In short I'm content with my life.

During my working life I have often been booked as a supporting artiste (extra) for programmes such as Torchwood, Doctor Who etc and so I can say my heart goes out to John and what he has to put up with! I can tell you that "extra's" are often treated far differently from the stars they are supporting!!

4 out of 5 stars Good but name dropping big style   June 26, 2010

I enjoyed John's book. He is very funny and witty (as in person). But a few too many name drops. But a really great read if you like John

5 out of 5 stars Great Reading   June 17, 2010
Norma Ritchie (Scotland)
Have throughly enjoyed both of Johns books, i love his way of explaing certain words or things in the book by inserting a number beside it and then putting a definition at the bottom of the page, if you like john you will love his books, they are certainly very 'informative'. Certain to bring a smile to your face, whatever the weather! Great.

5 out of 5 stars loved it   March 2, 2010
A. Davis (Scotland)
Got the book within two days in perfect condition, John Barrowman writes with gusto, and I like the mixed up order and the personal photos give it a "real" feel. I would recomend this book to anyone wanting a good belly laugh and to lift your mood, and it gives you insight into a personallity not a "celebrity".

4 out of 5 stars Brillant !   February 4, 2010
