5 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Entertaining Read - Buy it   July 7, 2010
George (Leeds)
I've read this and also his previous 'Dawn of the Dumb' collection and they are both brilliant. Only downside for me is that I now find myself trying to avoid reading his regular columns in the Guardian, so that I don't spoil it for when his next collection comes out! (If you are not sure if this book is for you, just go to Guardian online and Brooker's archive is on there of course)

5 out of 5 stars Funniest book i've read in a while   July 1, 2010

Charlie Brokker is not only a great comedian but he knows how to make you think. Despite his nihilistic rants this is a very funny collection of his guardian articles put together into a format easily acessible to non-guardian readers.

5 out of 5 stars Hillarious as ever   June 25, 2010

This man is funny. And right about everything. Well, not quite everything. I don't know why he insists that 'Doctor Who' is brilliant, I've seen it. It's not.
This book is greatly enhanced by being able to 'hear' Brooker reading the lines out loud. He has a very distinctive 'voice', both written and oral and it's a treat. He seems to stand on a precipice ranting and raving and venting the bile from his spleen, whilst occasionally turning to you and privately expressing his insecurities. He is funny though, prepare to have strangers stare at you as you read this on the train, stifling laughs and snorting.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect on-the-bog reading matter, for the cynically minded.   June 4, 2010
Helen (Yorkshire, UK.)
A collection of Brooker's Guardian columns- acerbic, deadpan, observational, black humour, in neat bite sized (bog reading) chunks. It made me laugh a lot.

This is very funny indeed, and I'm glad someone is taking the imbecilities of modern TV outside and shooting them in the head with high calibre point blank wit. Excellent stuff, very readable and an ideal book for delving into.
